My Life’s A Movie’ is a fast paced movie filled with action and comedy. Thirty-something year old writer Patricelli (abases Carlin) returns home to Paris from England to spend his father’s retirement on a much needed holiday. While there he befriends a French lady who goes by the name of Cosmo. The two spend many a night together and on the day of their final night they decide to take a walk in the city where Cosmo would have it that he’d like to commit suicide by shooting his lover in the head.
This movie is light hearted with amusing dialogues and moments. There are scenes where the characters discuss the political and social situation in France and the way life is lived in France. The movie contains a number of funny scenes, some of which are quoted by the characters. It also contains a number of songs which will get you hooked on the movie.
Although it is a romantic comedy the movie does not promote romance in any way shape or form. This movie instead revolves around the relationship between Cosmo and Patricelli. They are a couple but they still maintain their independent status. When they walk down the sidewalk they are aware of all the people that pass by. Their presence at the park also raises eyebrows as do other tourists.
The movie is punctuated with real life events. For instance at one point in the movie Cosmo and Patricelli are eating out at a fancy French restaurant when a waiter comes over to offer them some food. The waiter asks if they would like a glass of champagne. The response is no, so he goes back to the table and brings a bottle of Chianti. The couple heads for the door but just before they exit a waiter knocks on the glass and they both jump out of the window.
Throughout the movie there are references to famous landmarks in Paris. The first reference comes at the beginning when Patricelli is reading a French newspaper. He reads the article and then says “Je voudrais un cafe.” The phrase translates to “I will visit a cafe” and is a great metaphor for the way that you should live your life.
The characters are well developed. They have strong relationships and strong opinions. The movie is not filled with wishy washy undertones. The message that Cosmo’s mother tries to convey is that people should be confident and strong-willed and have the courage to live their life without limits.
